Tributes and Reflections

Dan Zanes

There’s so much to say about this music man and the lives he’s touched.

His beautiful daughter Aisha was born the same year as my daughter Anna. We became fathers together. His loving and super-supportive wife Denise has been on the roller coaster of life with him for decades and his son Irie Goose is now making his own inspired music.

There is such a sense of loss right now.

One thing I’m sure about: Father Goose would rather have people dance to his music than cry about his passing. Today I’ll do both.

Rest in peace/power to Father Goose!!! We shared an incredible journey together, driven by music that led to remarkable success. Your absence will be deeply felt, both personally and professionally.

I’ll never forget how we connected musically out in Brooklyn back in 2015 at a Father Goose show. He needed a guitar player to fill in for the show. After that, the rest became history.

As we continued to work together our passion for music and our strong work ethic created a unique bond between us. We became family. We never questioned the direction, we just went with the vibe/flow naturally with each record/single we worked on together. From “Rise Up,” “Nice To Meet U,” “I Can Make It,” “Live Your Life,” “Oh God,” to even “Calling Me” we had no limits or expectations jumping into different musical genres. All we wanted was to spread love, positivity and inspiration to the whole world. We considered our music family music not just children’s music which made it more appealing to the whole family. Goose aka “King of the Dance Party” wanted the whole world to dance as the music continued to play on!!!

Until we meet again fam!!! My guitar gently weeps.

Hey My Brother … I will miss you dearly … you showed me another side the music world I didn’t know and we did for a decade and a half touring the most beautiful places and making great music. To my Grammy brother, my crack jokes bud, my teacher of family music, my friend and the one of 2 only people that still call me Shiz … R.I.P. you did what you loved, to the end and we loved you for it.

Love you my dude.
FATHER GOOSE FOREVER.
NOW YOU CAN REST.

It was almost one year ago that I finally met you in person, dear friend. I can’t believe you have left this plane but what you left behind is a legacy of social justice work and your incredibly unique voice and style of music, which we will continue to celebrate. I was so honored that you agreed to collaborate on my song, “The Leader in You,” and contribute my favorite line of the whole track: “Looking for the meaning of life? Just create one.” And you certainly did just that.

Rest in peace and power, my friend and mentor @fathergooseent I’m sending all my love to your family @iriegoose_music and friends.
